Lifting capacity, bucket width, steel grade and coupling system — the wrong bucket damages both the tractor and the operation. Here are the questions to ask before buying.
1. Match the horsepower properly
The first step is not the machine itself but your tractor's power and carrying capacity. Stay inside the horsepower band the manufacturer states: the Diamond Platinum is calculated for 55–100 HP, the SpaceX for 70–100 HP and the X Model for 80–120 HP. A tractor below that band may still raise the load, but its hydraulics and transmission will be working under strain. Remember to add the loader's own weight (in the 500–600 kg range) to the load it will lift.
2. Match lift height to the job
For loading trailers, 3.5 m is usually enough. For truck beds or high stacking you need 4.5 m and above. Models with balance arms and a levelling linkage (the X Model, for instance) hold the bucket at the same angle at any height, which reduces product loss with bulk material.
3. Look at steel grade, not just thickness
The market emphasises "thick plate", but the decisive factor is yield strength, not thickness. St-52 grade steel withstands a markedly higher load than low-grade plate of the same thickness. Ask whether the cutting edge — where wear concentrates — carries a reinforcement plate.
4. Inspect the welds by eye
Continuous, even weld beads indicate production discipline. Interrupted, beaded or irregular seams carry a cracking risk at the first heavy load.
5. Is the coupling system compatible with attachments?
Today you may only be buying a bucket, but tomorrow you will want a silage grab, bale handler or big bag carrier. Being able to fit every attachment to the same coupling makes a serious cost difference over time.
6. Protection of hydraulic lines
Routing hoses inside the body or under a protective profile is the single most important detail against impacts from branches and stones. Exposed hydraulic lines are among the most common causes of field breakdowns.
7. Spare parts and after-sales support
Will you find a pin, bushing or cylinder seal five years from now? Asking how long a manufacturer has supported the same model matters at least as much as the specification sheet.
